Shadowhunters Midseason Review

I was so excited for this show...and as it progresses I am more and more disappointed each week. Why can Hollywood never understand this world that Cassandra Clare created. I was coming into this TV show hoping that it would be better than the movie but I actually at this point like the movie better than the TV show. There are a few things that the TV show has over the movie, but movie outweighs it by far.
The first thing I love about the show is that there is more Alec and Izzy. You see them more and there is more screen time for them. In the movie Alec and Izzy were in the background and did not seem as if they were of any importance. But here they have some really funny lines and they save the show for me. Alec's lines make me laugh out loud and are just perfect for the situation. Magnus is also so much better in the show. Movie Magnus was just a mess with his pants off, but show Magnus just fits the part so much better.
The things that are lacking in the show for me is the dialogue between Jace and Clary. Their lines are so cheesy and awkward. I cringe at some of their lines and the moments they share. They are not my Jace and Clary. Clary's relationship with Simon is also very weird. Why are they always hugging? Can someone explain? It feels like they do not know what to say so they just hug which shouldn't be the case since they are best friends. Or they always say, " I don't know what I would do without you" and "you're the only person I have left." Like come on none of these seems real.
I am just disappointed at this point, but I will keep watching because I will support anything to do with The Mortal Instruments and the Shadowhunter world. There are a few things that keep me coming back every week but I want this show to get better!

Let me know what you think of Shadowhunters in the comments below!
Thanks Hons!

  1. Yes you're right! TV Clace is really cheesy and their scenes are cringe worthy. I wasn't a fan of book clace either and had hoped that maybe just maybe tv clace could be better. But no. And I hate saying this but Katherine McNamara isn't pulling Clary off. First I thought maybe it's because of the way she's written? But then her acting isn't good..her body language and expressions look forced. I hope she gets better because she's so dedicated to the show. The other actors are okay. Harry (Magnus) is my favourite! He's really getting into the role. Isabelle, Alec and Magnus are the reason I'm watching the show. And Simon and Clary's friendship just seems awkward. I want the show to get better so badly. Honestly, it had great potential. Maybe these books aren't meant to be adapted. I just hope they don't touch the infernal devices. But I'll watch it till the end for Magnus, Alec and Isabelle and for the shadowhunters world which I love.

  2. Disappointed isn't enough to describe how I feel watching the show. There are some parts really awful, like you said the whole thing between Simon and Clary, it doesn't seem to me like friendship, real friendship, i mean, like the one they share in the books. Not mention about Jace, he isn't the sarcastic, mysterious, lovely Jace from the books. I think I'm just going to sit in a corner and cry for the terrible work in the adaptation of the series. the only satisfaction is Matthew Daddario, he is the only reason why I keep watching the show

  3. I totally feel you! The movie was so much better than the show except for Magnus Bane, of course.
