Rosie

They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They're right.
No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking.
He is my forbidden, shiny apple.
The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth.
He is also my sister's ex-boyfriend.
One thing you should know before you judge me;
I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first.
Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance.
Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. My white knight has finally arrived. Hopefully, he isn’t too late.

Dean

They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. They’re right.
She sets my mind on fire.
All smart mouth, snarky attitude and a huge heart.
In a world where everything is dull, she shines like fucking Sirius.
Eleven years ago, fate tore us apart.
This time, I dare it to try.
Getting to her is a battlefield, but man, that’s why they call me Ruckus.
Rosie LeBlanc is about to find out how hard I can fight.
And conquering her will be the sweetest victory.

•• PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 ••

I don't know how it is possible for me to fall even further down my L.J. Shen rabbit hole, but baby we are in too deep now. After reading Defy, Vicious and Pretty Reckless, there was a slow pattern emerging amongst Shen's male leads, but that all changed with Dean 'Ruckus' Cole. When we first meet Dean in Vicious, he is the fun-loving, quick to smile, anything to have a good time party boy of the 'Hotholes'. It would be easy to write him off as one dimensional, but in Ruckus you get to see the multifaceted character that is Dean Cole. A man with much more depth and darkness than the other hotholes.

Dean has always had a thing for Rosie, or as he likes to call her baby LeBlanc, since he was a teenager. But in an effort to protect her older sister Millie from his fellow hothole Vicious, Dean and Millie started dating–– forcing Dean to relinquish any chance of being with Rosie, but the thoughts still lingered. Now, 11 years later, they are living in the same apartment building in New York and nothing will stop Dean from getting what he wants this time.
Rosie was an amazing contrast to Dean, yet she complimented him so well. For her entire life she had to deal with people being cautious around her due to her life-altering illness, but not Dean. He didn't want to make her forget, he wanted to make her remember. He did not suffocate her, but rather let her breathe. Rosie is not someone who lets her illness dull her shine. Like most of Shen's female protagonist, she has sass for days and can counter any of Dean's sly remarks. They have a love for each other that is endless, heart-stopping and all consuming. With a story that connects both past and present, you find yourself neglecting the outside world and falling perfectly into theirs.
Another L.J. Shen book that I could not put down no matter how hard I tried. And I will keep going until I finish them all. I don't know what All Saints High is doing to their students, but it makes for excellent reading material. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
