May was such a crazy month for me and it all ended with me going to Book Expo America which was amazing and there will be a blog post about that coming up very soon! This is what I watched and read this month!
The first thing I watched this month was actually a rewatch. I rewatched Spider-Man: Homecoming since Spider-Man has to be one of my favorite Avengers. I love Toby McGuire, but Tom Holland is the perfect Spider-Man. Literally the embodiment of dorky adorableness mixed with kindness and a smart mouth. After getting to join the Avengers for a day, Peter Parker goes back to living with his Aunt May and tries to live a normal life, but is finding it difficult thanks to the new super suit Tony Stark got him. This movie is the perfect opening for the character and is all around a feel good, action packed movie. I would give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Then I watched Ant-Man and the Wasp so I had a refresher as to what was happening right before Avengers: Endgame. Scott Lang is grappling with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and a father. Approached by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym, Lang must once again don the Ant-Man suit and fight alongside the Wasp. The urgent mission soon leads to secret revelations from the past as the dynamic duo finds itself in an epic battle against a powerful new enemy. I adore Marvel movies because they are so funny and action packed, yet have a lot of heart. This movie was no different. Though it did not have me as excited as a Spider-Man or Guardians movie, I still enjoyed the film. I would give this movie 3.5 stars out of 5 just comparatively, it does not pack as hard of a punch as other Marvel movies.
The next thing I watched this month was all three Austin Powers movies since they are on Netflix. These movies are a spoof of 1960s spy films, in which cryogenically preserved secret agent Austin Powers is revived in the present day. Once synonymous with style, Powers soon realizes that his vocabulary, fashion sense and attitude to women are hopelessly out of date. He enlists the help of a decidedly modern woman to help him adjust to the 1990s and vanquish his old adversary, Dr Evil. I watched these movies as a child and they still make me laugh. Laugh harder than most comedy films that come out now a days. I love silly comedy and these are just a classic. 5 out of 5 stars.

The next thing I watched this month was Won't You Be My Neighbor? This documentary examines the life and legacy of Fred Rogers, the beloved host of the popular children's television show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Neville tells the story by talking those around Fred Rogers, who died in 2003; he himself is seen in some interview footage, but he never explains himself as well as others do. The filmmakers were asked by Rogers’ family not to make him a saint, and the film does a moving job of showing the doubts and childhood fears that lay underneath what could seem like uncomplicated positivity in different hands. How Mister Rogers fits in the age of Trump and what he stands for in a time of coarsened dialogue and widening divisions were always going to be unmistakable subtext to the film — and Neville and his team don’t shy away from that, including the silly but fervent right-wing outcry that insisted that Mister Rogers had ruined a generation of kids by telling them they were all special. There is nothing trendy about Fred Rogers, but there is also nothing timelier than what he had to offer — or maybe, as Neville’s film suggests, nothing more timeless. 4 out of 5 stars. It moved me to tears.

And then finally I went to go see AVENGERS: ENDGAME and HOLY SHIT! You can check out my full review here, but as you can probably guess, I loved this movie.
The next movie I watched was Crazy Rich Asians. This story follows Rachel Chu, who is accompanying her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. She's also surprised to learn that Nick's family is extremely wealthy and he's considered one of the country's most eligible bachelors. Thrust into the spotlight, Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites, quirky relatives and something far, far worse -- Nick's disapproving mother. This movie was a wild success due to its mostly Asian cast and a dynamic unlike most romcoms. The plot is more than just a "will they" or "wont they" and is an actually conversation about duty and love. Crazy Rich Asians is accessible to all audiences without forgoing what makes it special in the first place. I related to a lot of this movie and it was nice to feel that as a person of color. While I love everything this movie represents and stands for, it did not impact me as hard as I expected. I was not captured by the story, it did not draw all of my attention. Maybe it is because there was so much hype around it, I expected it to be greater. Or maybe it is because I just watched movies like Endgame or TV shows like Game of Thrones. I would give this movie 3 out of 5 stars.
