Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris--until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all...including a serious girlfriend.
But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?
I have finally read it! The contemporary that everyone has been talking about for the past 4 years! Anna and the French Kiss and I am sure glad I did. As most people know I am not a huge contemporary fan, I stick to my fantasy and paranormal books and tend to steer away from the traditional lovey-dovey romance. I have recently been in a reading slump since February of this year and this book got me out of it. With it's fast pace, it was a quick read to get me into the start of my summer. Stephanie Perkins has created beautiful characters that melt my heart and truly just make me happy!
Anna and the French Kiss follows a young girl named Michelle...just kidding could you imagine! It would be like Zelda and Link all over again. No her name is Anna and her asshole father has forced her to leave everything behind at home in Atlanta and face her senior year in France. On the way back from introducing herself to her new dorm neighbor Meredith, Anna run into Étienne St. Clair, (or just St. Clair as everyone else calls him) a charming and extremely handsome young boy with a British accent and luscious hair. Anna and St. Clair seem to hit it off great, they become quick friends and spend time together. The is only one small problem...the fact that he has a girlfriend. The tension created between the two of them adds so much depth to the storyline. The attraction between the two of them is there, but St. Clair is the forbidden fruit. Anna wants what she knows she cannot have. But it is what keeps the pace of the book, the longing the two have for each other that they keep denying. The slow progression between these two is aching but rewarding when we finally get a taste.

St Clair is something exceptional as well. Though most people find him extremely irritating for his glaring and obvious flaws,–stringing Anna along for the entire book and not dumping his girlfriend– St. Clair is a fantastic friend. He is always there for Anna and the others and treats them well. He is short and funny and just adorable. Although at first Anna thinks St. Clair is this perfect ethereal being she realizes he has his flaws like the rest of us.
Perkins additionally does a brilliant job of making Paris come to life with such incredible detail. From the cafes to the cinemas, everything felt Parisian so much so that I could smell the crêpes from just opening my book. There was so much structure and plan thought out to every scene it honestly blew my mind.
I do not read contemporaries often, but I am so glad I read this. Yes this may give some an unrealistic thought about love and romance, but sometimes we need to fantasize. I needed a chick-lit to get me in the mood to read again and I might just pick up another.
Anna and the French Kiss has moved to my favorites shelf and will stay there till the end of time. It gives me such a warm feeling in my heart and I know I will come back to it over and over again! 5 out of 5 stars!!
